Kick-starting a call centre career

Focussing on Call Centre Operations, this Learn Local pre-employment program is being held in Morwell.  Adult, Community and Further Education (ACFE) Training Coordinator with GEST, Jennifer McCafferty, said the course would help students forge a career in one of the rapidly growing employment sectors.

“Learn Local courses take place in less formal community settings and must meet quality elements agreed by the Department of Education and Training,” Ms McCafferty explained.

“Despite the fact that many businesses now communicate with their customers via social media, the phone is still one of the best tools to connect with your customers and vice versa, and in this technologically dominated society, being able to verbally communicate is more important than ever.”

The Kickstart your Career in Customer Service – Call Centre Operations course runs for four days per week and teaches participants the skills of conflict resolution, effective customer service, communications skills, professional accountability, confidentiality and privacy.

“The Call Centre Operation industry has performed well over the past five years with a large number of local businesses and government agencies continuing to use domestic call centre services,” Ms McCafferty said.

“Our students are better prepared and gain an understanding of the latest technologies and work practices in call centres and appreciate the importance of setting high standards when communicating with customers.”

The Victorian Government is investing in the adult community education sector with funding for the Strengthening Pathways for Adult Learners in Gippsland (SPALG) program. This initiative provides Learn Local educators with mentoring support, quality curriculum in skill shortage areas and foundation skills, engaging with local businesses, government agencies and TAFE.
